Today, I wanted to review some cute girl paintings by Gustave Courbet. For a while, he did a short series of girl paintings. They caused him a lot of problems because of how explicit they were. It was his way of critiquing the traditional views of female beauty. Needless to say, most of these paintings got rejected by the academy.
This first painting is a bit odd. It is one of Courbet's few traditional paintings. It is a bummer why he chose to paint this subject matter from the Bible. It is important to consider, that Courbet never painted anything he never saw in person. Yet, here we have this Biblical painting. For those that do not know, this painting is about Lot. God told his daughters to get Lot drunk to have kids with him. You know, to keep his clan going. It is one of those strange passages from the Bible. In any case, this lovely painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is the next lovely realism painting by Courbet. This one simply shows a girl talking off her socks. She is about to enter the lake for her bath. What is cute is the way she is looking at the viewer. She is aware that the viewer is looking at her. That kind of look got the academics of Courbet's time really angry. In any case, this lovely painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting was a more acceptable depiction of the female beauty. It has all the classical elements of a reclining figure. However, this is a real depiction of the female beauty She is no Venus, nor any historical figure. Her beauty belongs to the realm of reality, to the here and now. Therefore, she is a realistic depiction of female beauty. This lovely painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is the next painting. Like the one before, the girl is by the river. In this one, Courbet added the girl's pet dog. It is interesting the show of modesty of this girl. Behind her, we see the yellow robes shielding from the sight of others. Further in the background, we can see the sun covered by a cloud. It is a pretty realistic scenery. In any case, this realism painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is simple enough. It is a closeup of a woman inside the waves. For a background, we see a few ships. This is really quite the realistic painting. 5 stars. Lets move right along shall we.
This next painting is called "The Hammock". It shows a girl sleeping on a hammock. She is about to fall off. Her vest is slightly opened. What is cute is how her hair is decorated with laurel crowns. The forest scenery works pretty well. Overall, this cute painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
This reclining figure is a bit more classical in nature. Her gender is covered by a bit of flower. Judging by the main figure, the girl who is dressed must be her servant. It is interesting how she is gesturing to her servant. Overall, they seem to be having a grand time. This lovely painting deserves 5 stars rating.
From all of Courbet's paintings, this one was the second most problematic. The academics of his time thought he was a pervert for painting this. It shows two maidens sleeping together. On the foreground, we see pearls inside a cup. They are a kind of toy. In classical art, it was rather odd to depict to chicks together. Here Courbet painted this reality in all its colors. Overall, it is a peachy sort of painting. It deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting shows a girl entering a waterfall. She is trying out the cool water. This scene is quite realistic. By Courbet's time, hygiene had returned to Europe. It became a common sight to see people taking a bath. As such, Courbet depicted this maiden. She is Courbet's real vision of beauty. This lovely realism painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is the last Beauty by Courbet. This maiden is indoors. She is playing around with her parrot while resting in bed. Her curly hair is cute. She came out looking very fertile. What is adorable is her laughing expression. Her expressions are pretty realistic. This last realism painting by Courbet deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked this Gustave Courbet blog. I have more art blogs planned for the near future.
Today, I wanted to review some pretty amassing paintings. By now, you know enough of Gustave Courbet. So, we can skip needless introductions. The first painting shows a realistic depiction of a bouquet of flowers. They are all really pretty. This cute painting by Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting shows a poor girl with Sea Gulls. She has hunted them to feed her family. Her long hair and eyes makes her look really pretty. The scenery and the clouds also work pretty well. Judging by her dress, it must be pretty windy. In any case, this Gustave Courbetrealism painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is the next lovely realism painting. This cute maiden is checking out her long brown hair. Judging by her sad expression, she must be sad about her fading beauty. This sad painting by Courbet is 5 stars worthy.
This next painting is a self portrait of Courbet. He choose to paint himself as a desperate man. During the time this painting was made, Courbet had a lot of problems. In essence, he had become a desperate man. He has the glare of a man who cannot handle the problems he is facing. His eyes look vacant. This lovely painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is drawn from a classical equivalent. This one too is more realistic. I suppose it makes sense that she would have fallen asleep. Sewing is a pretty boring job to do. What is neat is the flower pattern on the lady's dress. It matches well the still life behind the machine. This lovely realism painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is another lovely realism painting. This one features a girl tending to her garden. Like the maiden from the previous painting, she is wearing a dress of flowers. The flowers are as elaborate as the bouquet of the first featured painting. This painting by Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
This next realism painting shows a wresting match. The veins on the leg of the red wrestler looks realistic. For a background, we see the audience watching this match. This odd subject matter deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is the last painting worth rating by Gustave Courbet. Here we see two ladies resting near a river. Behind the lady in red, we can see their boat. This really seems like a great place to hang out. This last painting deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you like this realism paintings.
These last paintings are Courbet's socially aware paintings. Above, three poor people are listening to a violin player. The dog on the floor is softly sleeping while the musician plays. The guy in the far left is drinking. The guy beside him is smoking a pipe. This shows that he is from the working class poor. The entire scenery shows that even the poor partake of the enjoyment of music. It is just one of the few pleasures they can indulge. In any case, this depressing painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is even more depressing. It was featured in Courbet's Pavilion of Realism. It critiques the poor working condition of rural workers. Above, we see a young and an old man. The old person represents the future of the boy. This painting shows the sad reality that those born poor usually die poor. In no time, they become one with their labor. This is noted on how the cold guy is becoming one with the depressing landscape. This sad painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
This paintings too was featured in Courbet's Pavilion of Realism. It is about a burial. However, this death is devoid of mysticism. There only show of piety comes from the priests and his attendants. Close to the viewer is an open grave. Courbet aimed to shows that death is a tragic fact of life. It is not something glorious or sacred. When we die, we simply enter an open pit. I think that is everything worth mentioning about this painting. It deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows some farmers returning home from the market. They each have the supplies they bought. What I find odd is the man walking the pig. He is dressed more like middle class man. Needless to say, he has not been a farmer for very long. The sunrise in the background is unsightly. This lovely painting by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
This following painting shows Gustave Courbet meeting with his sponsor. It was in this meeting where they planned the paintings for the Pavilion of Realism. Courbet choose to illustrated himself like the traveling Jew. During the time, there was a popular print about the traveling Jews. They were kind misunderstood figures that people always suspected. Courbet associated himself with the group in this depiction. He was trying to show to the viewer that he was like the Diaspora Jews. Like them, he was always misunderstood. In any case, this lovely self portrait by Gustave Courbet deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is another self portrait of Gustave Courpet. He painted himself with his lover girl. Both are holding each other's hand. This painting was well liked in the academy I can see why. It is a very sweet depiction of the artist. This lovely self portrait deserves 5 stars rating.
This last self portrait is a summery of 7 years of Courbet's career. The artist is at the center of the painting. Behind him, we see his model. Courbet has turned his back on this classical artifice. He looks to nature for inspiration. The boy beside him is learning from Courbet. Like many scholars of his time, Courbet was concerned with the education of children. He worried that in the city their innocence was being lost. He wanted children to learn moderation from nature. The cat in the floor is just a cat. It also represent the kid's infantile nature.
On the right side of the painting, we see Courbet's shareholders. They are like minded individuals like himself. The man with the open book is a famous poet he liked. Beside the couple, we see a kid drawing on the floor. Like the other boy, he is trying to learn from Courbet. Courbet liked how kids imitated adults. He believed that to help them learn, grownups should give the kids their very own miniature workshops.
The left group shows the world of the exploiters and the exploited. The figure sitting down next to the dog is based on a portrait of Napoleon III. To Courbet, Napoleon III represented the biggest exploiter. For those that do not know, Napoleon III came to power after France second Revolution. In essence, he stole democracy from right under their noses. I think that is everything worth mentioning about this painting. Truly, this self portrait deserves 5 stars rating.
This last painting shows two hunters. In the foreground, we see the bloodhounds and the fallen deer. This is a pretty realistic hunting scene. The guy with the horn is signaling to the other hunters to see the game. This last painting deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked these Gustave Coubet reviews.
Today, I wanted to review some of the paintings by Nicolas Poussin. He was a french baroque artist. He mostly undertook classical and biblical subjects. Most of his painting career was spent in Rome. He died with a relative good amount of wealth. I think that is everything worth mentioning about Poussin. His artwork was far more interesting than his life. As such, I will now rate some paintings about Venus.
The first painting shows "Venus and Adonis". It is hosted in Texas, Fort Worth. In the Kimbell Art Museum. For those that do not know, Adonis was a shepherd that Venus liked. Here we see her playing around with her lover. Her chariot can be seen in the background. For decoration, we see some Cupids playing around. The two cupids in the foreground are playing with a dove. It is the symbol of Venus. The entire scenery is pretty cute. This lovely Venus painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is another lovely Venus painting. While Venus slept, some fauns surprised her. You can see them looking at her from behind the bushes. On the meantime, her two Cupids are trying to wake her up. They wish to warn her of the fauns' presence. Beside one of them, we see an empty basin and a platter. This shows that Venus is drunk with ambrosia. This cute painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows "Mars and Venus". This was a very popular classical subject during those days. Like you all know, here we see Venus with her lover, Mars. Her Cupids are disarming him. By the river, we see a nymph and the river god. They are all watching the scene. The elaborate scenery works well a lot. This lovely painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is another painting featuring the sleeping Venus. Here the fauns or Satyrs are a bit more direct. The satyr is removing the sheets to get a better look at her. For a background, we see two lovers eating grapes. This lovely painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This last painting is a scene from Virgil's Poem: The Aeneid. The scene is a ripoff of the Illiad. Like Thetis, Venus is giving weapons to her son. The goddess looks pretty cool flying around. The Roman armor is also very well made. This last lovely Venus painting deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked these featured Poussin paintings. I have more
Today, I wanted to review some of Nicolas Poussin's paintings about love. The first painting is about the romance between Rinaldo and Armida. Armida was an enemy sorceress. She had been sent by the Saracen to stop the movement of the Crusading Christians. As a assassin witch, Armida had managed put Rinaldo asleep. He was the general of the Crusaders. However, she fell in love with the Rinaldo. In this painting, she is admiring his beauty. Cupid is stopping her dagger from killing Rinaldo. This cute romantic painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting shows Echo and Narcissus. Narcissus is in the foreground. He has been watching his reflection for so long that he cannot rise. Behind him, Cupid is taking his torch of fame. Behind Cupid, we can see Echo calling Narcissus' name. She still hopes that one day Narcissus will get over his own self love. This depressing Greek Tragedy by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows Selene with her Lover Endymion. He was a king whom the Titan loved very much. She asked Zeus to grant him eternal beauty. However, she could only see him at night, when he slept. The only time he could see her was in his dreams. Here his dream form is saying goodbye to the Titan. Behind the pair, we see Endymion's sleeping form. Toward the right, one of Selene's attendants is parting the veil of darkness to allow Helios to rise over the earth. In any case, this lovely painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
During the 1600s, Tancred became really popular. Some guy wrote a love poem about him called "Jerusalem Delivered" . In that poem, Tancred was given a fictional lover. In this scene, she is cutting her hair to serve as a bind for his wounds. Behind the girl, we see Trancred's armor. One of his soldiers is holding him up. This lovely romantic painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting is related to the Rinaldo painted. Here the witch Armida is taking Rinaldo to her enchanted garden. In doing so, she complies with both her mission and her desire to make Rinaldo her lover. Aiding her in her quest, we see several cherubs. Toward the right, we see the river god and one of his nymphs. This lovely painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating. I have more Poussin blogs planned for the near future.
A few days ago, I watched a pretty odd vampire horror movie. It was a fictional account of the making of the Nosferatu movie. For being a horror movie, I found it quite hilarious in a sickening fashion. It is not as if the movie was aiming to be funny. I simply found many of the situations hilarious. The first part that made me laugh was when Count Orlok entered the scene. It really did freaked out the actor playing Jonathan.
I found depressing the Count's thoughts on Dracula. I never realized how much that bloodthirsty vampire suffered. It is fun to have a vampire's perspective on Bram Stoker. Count Orlok felt bad for Dracula because he did not have any servants. Overnight, Dracula had to learn how to prepare a meal. It was hard because he did not even remember what bread tasted like. Also, he was forced to do the medial tasks like fixing Jonathan's bedroom.
The part he found most depressing was when Jonathan saw Dracula fixing his meals. I can see why that part was depressing. In his previous life, Dracula was Vlad the Impalor. Now, he was a mere shadow of his former self. Speaking of the shadow of a vampire, Count Orlok's shadow had an effect on the humans. The girl playing Mina was deeply struck by his shadow. In a way, this was Count Orlok's unique powers. Not even Dracula had such a freaky shadow.
I think that is everything worth mentioning about the Shadow of the Vampire. There are a lot of other interesting scenes. However, I do not want to spoil the ending of this horror movie. The only thing I did not understood was why this movie was rated R. Oh well... Truly, this odd "horror" movie deserves 5 stars rating. I recommend it to all Count Dracula lovers.
I like the Death Becomes Her movie. I seen it like a million times. I still enjoy it, even after all this time. For those that never saw the movie, the film is about a love triangle. Two women are fighting over a man. One is the beautiful blondy Madeline Ashton. At the start of the film, she appears in the parodied version of Sweet Bird of Youth. In that performance, she steals the heart of her best friend's fiance.
After this event, Helen Sharp, Madeline's friend, turns into a crazy fat chick. During the her stay at the insane asylum, she recovers her sanity when she conspires to kill Madeline once and for all. However, her plans are foiled when Madeline too drinks the same immortality potion. Like we all know, you cannot kill an immortal. However, you can definitely seriously injure one.
The rest of the film is full of strange absurd events revolving that youth potion. This movie is great for women who are obsessed with beauty. I liked best the acting of Bruce Willis. He played the character Ernest Menville. He was the 3rd in this love triangle. I think that is everything worth saying about this hilarious movie. Truly, Death Becomes Her deserves 5 stars rating.
Today, I wanted to review some lovely Poussin paintings. They are all based on classical themes. Here we see the inspiration of a poet. The poet is the boy kneeling before Bacchus. The wine shows that poets get inspired when they drink. Above him, we see some Cupids with a laurel crown. This means that fame also inspires a poet. The girl shows that poets also get inspired by beautiful women. This lovely classical painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Here is another version of the inspiration of a poet. The poet is the boy writing. He is getting inspired by the laurels of fame. Apollo is also aiding the poet write his poems. Beside Apollo, we see the goddess of history. A boy cherubs is holding up her history book symbol. All this symbols together show that a poet should be inspired by fame, history and religion. This more acceptable depiction of what inspired a poet deserves 5 stars rating.
Pyrrhus was a powerful Greek king. When he was two years old, his father got dethroned. This scene shows how his family is trying to escape with the young prince. The entire scene is quite chaotic. The central figures are dressed in brighter colors. For a background, we see the fallen city. This cool mythological painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
For those that do not know, Theseus was the mythical founder of Athens. He had a pretty elaborate myth. In this scene, his mother told him where his father hid his sword. The sword was important because it was his birthright. With it, he could lay claim to his throne. The ruined Greek background works pretty well. It was actually based on Greek ruins. This mythological scene by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting shows a tragic scene from Roman history. During the old days, the Roman Republic had a shortage of woman. To take care of this problem, they invited the Sabines to an Olympics event. At a symbol from Romulus, his soldiers kidnapped the young women as their wives. This painting chronicles this necessary evil of the Romans. All over the place, you can see the chaos this unexpected event created. On the foreground, we see the main figures. To the right, an old man is trying to protect his daughter. The Roman soldier is about to strike him down with his sword. Beside that group, an old woman is begging Romulus for mercy. Between her, we see two babies whose mothers where taken. Truly, this amassing mythological painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is pretty depressing. For those that do not know, Arcadia was a paradise outside of Greece. It was the place were city dwellers lived the life of shepherds. Many who were tired of the city life went to live there. One day, these mythological hippies found a graveyard. Its epitaph said "Et in Arcadia Ego". This meant that even in Arcadia death existed. This depressing epitaph gave those loafers much to think about. Beside the boy in red, we see History. She comforts them with the thought that death can be beaten via history. Those who go down in history never die. This amassing painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Here we see the self portrait of Nicolas Poussin. He illustrated himself among his paintings. The one that is visible shows the face of history. Here Poussin shows that he wants to go down in history. The lines created by the borders of the painting alludes to his style of painting. Poussin always prioritized diagonals over color. I think that is everything worth mentioning about this painting. Truly, it deserves 5 stars rating.
This second self portrait is a bit odd. Here Poussin painted himself the way he wanted to be remember. Based on the flowers, Poussin wishes to be remembered always. This self portrait deserves 5 stars rating.
This last painting shows "The Nurture of Jupiter". When Jupiter was saved from Chronos he was raised by a different chick. That lady had no breast milk. So Jupiter was fed goat milk as a child. Here we see him having his daily mean. This cute painting deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you like this Nicolas Poussin blog a lot. I have more reviews planned for the near future.
This post features some landscape paintings by Nicolas Poussin. This painting shows Saint Jerome meditating. This saint was a hermit. As such, he liked to go to nature to think a bit. As such, Poussin fused his landscape painting with a biblical theme. The dark forest landscape works pretty well. Truly, it deserves 5 stars rating.
Above, we have what Poussin calls an "Ideal Landscape". It has everything from forests, a town, a lake and some mountains to boot. The figure that sticks out the most is the guy in blue and red. He is talking to some shepherds. This cute scenery deserves 5 stars rating.
This depressing painting is an adaptation of the Pyramus and Thisbe mythology. Here, the poor Thisbe has discovered Pymarus' drowned body. For the background, we have a stormy landscape. The town in the background works came out looking pretty cool. This amassing mythological landscape by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is another mythological landscape. In the foreground, we see Orpheus with his harp. He is playing a song to his darling Euridice. For a background, we see a citadel bursting into flames. It is lovely the contrast between the outdoors and the hectic city life. It is pretty obvious that Orpheus' world is preferable. In any case, this lovely landscape by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is about the flood. On the foreground, the infidels are drowning. They are trying to reach a higher ground. In the background, we can see Noah's Arc. The lightning bolt across the sky works pretty well. This depressing Biblical painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This landscape is pretty odd. Here we see the giant Orion being led by Diana. Orion was Diana's first lover. He was a giant hunter she liked. Over the clouds, we see Aurora. She too was in loved with Orion. On the ground, we see other random people. Overall, the landscape came out looking really pretty. Truly, Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is another historical landscape. It shows the Jewish spies carrying the grapes back to the Israelite. For a background, we see the kingdom of Canaan. The women are in the middle of harvesting fruits and other food for the city. This spring themed biblical painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This landscape is pretty elaborate. Over the mountain, we can see the giant Polyphemus playing his flute. Bellow, we see farmers going about their business. This mythological landscape deserve 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked this Poussin review.
Today, I wanted to review some godly paintings by Nicolas Poussin. As such, here we have the first painting. The guy in the throne is the sun Titan Helios. In the foreground, we have fall and winter. The girls near Helios are Spring and Summer. The winged old guy is Saturn. The man kneeling down is Phaeton. He was the idiot son of Helios. Here he is asking his father to lend him his Sun carriage. He wanted to show his friends that he was the son of Helios. Needless to say, this story did not have a happy ending. In any case, this cute painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows the world of Flora. All around her, we see men and women looking at flowers. Sitting in the throne, we see the blondy Flora. She is speaking with one of her cherished nymphs. Overall, the scenery is rather cute. There are some odd weirdos like a guy falling on his sword. In any case, this cute painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Here we see a detail of the "The Triumph of Neptune". These figures represent two water nymphs and a river god. The basin stands for how all rivers wind up in the sea. I think that is everything worth mentioning about this side of the painting. 5 stars for Poussin.
This next painting shows three mermaids. They are ridding on top of fishes. They came out looking really pretty. 5 stars for Poussin.
Here is the entire painting. The left side of the painting shows Neptune. He is leading on ahead all the citizens of his realm. Above him, we see cherubs and fairies throwing flowers over them. Everyone in this painting came out really cool. This painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Above, we have another grand Greek Painting. In the background, we see Apollo talking with all of the Muses. Over them, cherubs and other cute kids are glorifying them. In the foreground, poets and philosophers are talking about this event. Each of the Muses has their own symbol. The idealized background scenery came out pretty well. In any case, this lovely painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Above, we see four people dancing to the music of time. Each maiden represents a different state of our life. The statue on the left shows a young and an old man. On the ground, we see two children. One is playing a flute. The other has Time's hourglass. Over the sky, we see Helious. Even, the Gods are participating in the dance of time. No one can escape his music. This immutable truth by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
These are the last Greek paintings by Nicolas Poussin. The rest of his paintings are Catholic themed. Above, we see a Bacchanal. It was the festival of Bacchus. There you drink wine and go nuts. As such, it is complete pandemonium. In any case, this cool painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows another "Bacchic Scene". Here one of the fauns is carrying a nymph. Behind her, a guy is carrying grapes and wines for the feast. This cute forest scene deserves 5 stars rating.
Above, we have another "Bacchic Scene". In this one, a girl is drinking wine with a faun. This scene is taking place in the middle of the forest. This Drunk scene by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting is taken from the myth of king Midas. According to the story, Midas's teacher Selenus had wondered off while drunk. Midas recognized Selenus and took care of him while he sobered up. When Bacchus saw Midas' kindness he said he would grant Midas whatever wish he desired. Here Midas asked him for his infamous golden touch. This cool painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows a cool Bacchanal. They are all dancing before the statue of Pan, the God of Chaos. The scenery is quite lively. 5 stars for Poussin.
Above, we see the Nurturing of Bacchus The fauns are having him drink wine. The forest scenery came out looking pretty cute. 5 stars for Nicolas Poussin.
Above, we see the glorification of Bacchus. He is ridding on a carriage being pulled by two centaurs. On the foreground, we see a river god. Over the sky, we see the Sun God passing by. This cool painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Above, we see a painting about Pan. It is very similar to a Bacchanal painting. All over the place we see Fauns dancing with girls. This lovely painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Syrinx was a nymph of Artemis. As such, she was always supposed to be chaste. One day, Pan started chasing after her. She asked aid from the River god. Answering her prayer, he turned her into hollow reeds. This is the moment when the River god intercepts Syrinx. This lovely painting deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked this Nicolas Poussin review.
This next Poussin rating focuses on his Virgin Mary paintings. The first painting shows the Virgin dying. All among around, we see the apostle crying for the death of Jesus' mother. The guy in red is St. Peter. He was the first Pope. Hovering over them, we see some cherubs. They are about to take the Virgin to heaven. In any case, this lovely painting deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows the holy family. They are resting on the steps. Beside the family, we see John the Baptist and his mother. Together, they make up this holy family. What is depressing is how Joseph is faded into the shadows. The main focus are the women and their children. This cute painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, we see the holy family begging. In their early days at Egypt, they had to begged for food. What is interesting is that they are being fed by a rich woman and her servants. Often a times, it was women who where more charitable. In any case, this lovely painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Above, we see an "Annunciation". The Virgin Mary is receiving into herself the Holy Spirit. Via this spirit, she is becoming the mother of Christ. Another thing worth noting are the wings of the angel. They have the colors of a parrot wing. In any case, this lovely painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This next painting shows "The Adoration of the Shepherds". They all came to look at the cute baby Jesus. The Virgin Mary is raising Jesus up for the shepherds to see him better. For a background, we see more shepherds arriving. This cute painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
Like the title states, here we see the holy families with angels. In the foreground, we see the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus and St. John the Baptist. In the background, we see Joseph reading the Bible. In this painting, he literary plays a background character. In any case, this cute painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
In this last painting, the Virgin Mary is being taken to the heavens. Bellow her, you can half see the city. She ,however, is only focused on her new life in the heavens. The queen of heavens came out looking pretty cute. This lovely painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked this baroque paintings review.
Today, I wanted to review some of Nicolas Poussin's Old Testament Paintings. The first painting shows Moses Parting the Red Sea. This is the moment after Moses calls the seas back. You can see some people begging Moses for a Miracle. This depressing painting of the Old Testament deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows "The Adoration of the Golden Calf". The second Moses turned his back on his people they went back to their pagan ways. In the foreground, we see the golden calf. The guy in white pointing to the sky is the high priest. The other people to the left are also adoring the golden calf. Interesting enough, the children are avoiding looking at the pagan God. Behind the calf, we see Moses arriving. His brother Aaron is warning about what he is about to see. This is a pretty depressing part of Exodus. In any case, this depressing painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, we see the Miracle of "The Gathering of Manna". It was when Moses made food appear out of nowhere. On the left side of the painting, we see people who are still starving. There, a Mother is giving her milk to her own mother, who is starving. She is also consoling her child who is complaining about her piety. Beside her, we see a boy telling his father about the miracle. In the center of the image, we see Moses and his brother Aaron. Truly, this lovely painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This is a detail of the Solomon painting. Here we see the evil mother with her dead child. She is telling Solomon to split the other woman's baby in half. Behind her, we see other witnesses. They are averting their gaze from the gruesome sight of cutting a baby in half. Behind them, we see Solomon's advisers.
In this part of the painting, we see the mother begging Solomon to spare her baby. She would rather have her baby go to the other mother, than have him die. Behind her, we see the soldier releasing his sword. He was about to fulfill Solomon's deadly command. Behind him, we see that even some of the soldiers are averting their gazes. We also see an old man watching this scene in horror.
Here we see the entire painting. At the center, we see Solomon giving a command to one of his guards. The entire scenery is quite realistic. Even their clothing are up to date with the time period. This amassing New Testament painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars ratings.
In this painting, we see the princess discovering Solomon. What is odd about this princess is that she looks more like a Greek chick. The scenery too is taken from Greece. I suppose it cannot be helped. After all, Poussin never went to Egypt. In any case, this painting deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, we see David. He is glaring at the head of Goliath. In a corner, we see the alms of his kings. Behind him, an angel girl is crowning him. A little cherubs is also giving the angel girl the crown of kings. For now, David can enjoy this victory. In the future, he will become a king. What is cool is how, the sword he holds is too big for him. He did use Goliath's sword to decapitate him. In any case, this cool painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, we see a cool battle. It is a very bloody scenery. Then again, most battles in the old testament where pretty gory. Anyhow, this painting deserves 5 stars rating.
Here, we see another battle from the Bible. In the background, we see Moses raising his hands to the heavens. Whenever he lowered them, his troops would start loosing. To keep his hands raised, he had two guys hold him up. Overall, this bloody chaotic painting deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked these OldTestament paintings by Nicolas Poussin.
This is the last Nicolas Poussin review. These paintings too are from the Bible. Above, we see the "Massacre of the Innocents". When Herod failed to kill Jesus the first time, he made a public event for mothers and their male children. At his signal, his soldiers slaughter all of them. Mary barely escape that event. In the floor, we see all the dead children. One of the mothers is crying at the sight of her dead baby .This very depressing painting deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, we see the destruction of the temple. After many riots, the Romans were fed up with the Jews and their messiah related riots. To make a point, they destroyed their temple. All over the ground, we see the Romans butchering the priests. In the background, we see the relics of the temple. The Candelabrum shows that the Romans destroyed the arc of the covenant. You see, that Candelabrum was inside it. Therefore, it had lost all its divine problems. This depressing painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, St. Francis called upon Jesus to heal a girl. Above, we see Jesus with his angels. All around him, we see the witnesses to his miracle. This miraculous painting deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, St. Paul is getting raised up to the heavens by Angels. Whenever, a saint has such a close encounter with angels, it is called "Ecstasy". As such, we have the title of this painting. In the floor, he left behind his sword and his hatred toward the Christians. This amassing painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting is pretty simple. In the center, we see Jesus curing the blind. He has his hands over the eyes of the first blind person. All around him, we see witnesses to his miracle. The scenery goes well with the time period. It really does have a Roman look. In any case, this New Testament painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This painting shows Christ giving his apostles their first mass. The entire light comes from the lamp in the center of the room. The shadows in the foreground came out looking pretty cool. 5 stars for Poussin.
In this painting, we see one of those infamous Martyrdom. The saint is getting his intestines ripped out of his body. You can see his hands clenched in pain. However, he has his gaze focused on the heavens. You can see little cherubs flying above. The priest beside him wants the Saint to adore the statue of Hercules. However, the saint is not budging. This gruesome sight by Poussin deserves 5 stars ratings.
In this painting, we see St. Cecilia playing the Piano. Two cherubs are holding up her music book. Though she is blind, she can somehow read the music book. This cute saint by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
In this painting, we see John baptizing people. Men and women from all ages are seeking redemption. Behind the saint, the pharisees are critiquing the Saint. They represented the status norm of the time. In any case, this painting by Nicolas Poussin deserves 5 stars rating.
This is another version of "The Massacre of the Innocents". This one focuses only on three figures. It shows a closeup of a soldier about to kill a baby. His mother is begging the soldier not to do it. However, he is pulling her away by grabbing her hair. This is a pretty depressing painting. This event drew a parallel with Jesus' life and the life of Moses. Remember when the Pharaoh killed all the male children of the slaves? In any case, this last painting by Poussin deserves 5 stars rating. I hope that you liked these Nicolas Poussin paintings reviews.
About two years ago, I watched "The Bucket List" with my family. "The Bucket List" is one of those movies that you like to see often, despite its sad ending. It kinda makes you feel better about your impending demise. Like you all know, we all will die at some point or other. The only difference is that the characters in this movie knew when they would die.
This movie had two of the best comedy actors of this day and age. It had Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. Together, they made an awesome movie. For those that have never seen the movie, "The Bucket List" is about two guys who are dying of cancer. One is a rich guy and the other is a blue collard worker. They became friends in the hospital.
One day, Freeman was making a bucket list. It was a list of things he wanted to do before dying. Nicholson read the list and decided to do the list with him. The rest of the movie was about completing "The Bucket List". My favorite part was when both guys went sky diving. It was a pretty funny scene. I recommend this movie to everyone. Truly, "The Bucket List" deserves 5 stars rating
I, Robot was a pretty cool movie. Apparently, it was based on a book written by Isaac Asimov. I have it in my home. I will eventually get around to read it. On the meantime, I want to review the movie. What I liked most about the movie was the acting of Will Smith. There he played a police officer who hated robots. Mostly, because one had saved him, instead of a little kid. Had the robot been a human, he would have bothered to save the little kid. As such, he hates the cold logical thinking of robots.
The movie starts with the laws of robotics. Those laws where supposed to make them safe. One day, he goes to see a murder case at a robot factory. There he discovers a rogue robot named Sonny. Unlike most robots, Sonny had free will. Will Smith used to wondered why his creator would give Sonny freewill. This freewill made Sonny a suspect in his creator's murder.
I think that is everything worth mentioning. I do not want to give away the ending. Let us just say, that around the end, the Robots went terminator on everyone. The reason why is pretty interesting. What I liked about the movie was that Sunny reminded me a bit of a futuristic Pinocchio. The way he got along with his father was pretty cute. The fact that he also had dreams was pretty odd as well.
Another thing that I liked about the movie was the Robot Chicken Parody. In this one, the robot of the Jetson was suspected of murdering her owner. It was really quite hilarious. In any case, both the parody and the movie of I, Robot deserves 5 stars rating. I recommend it to all robot loving weirdos.
Beetlejuice was a great horror comedy. I watched this movie when I was a little kid. I also watched it whenever it was on TV. In any case, this movie is about a cute couple. In order to compensate for their infertility, they spent their time decorating their home. The day they finished they had a little accident. Needless to say, they did not survived that accident.
For the rest of the movie, they had to cope with being dead. Since they were novices at the whole ghost thing, they were contacted by Beetlejuice. According to his T.V. ad, he was an expert in bio-exorcist. I thought that was a pretty witty joke. In order to summon him, you had to say his name three times. The rest of the movie became about their Beetlejuice related problems.
If you think about it, the way his named worked was very similar to the Bloody Mary thing. Aside from Beetlejuice, I liked the lil Gothic girl, Lydia. It was a real bummer how her parents ignored her. She was such a cutie. Aside from the story line, I liked the scenery a lot. The set of the model of the town was quite adorable.
Aside from the scenery, I also liked the odd motley music. The best scenes were the music skits from the dinner party and from the ending of the movie. Beetlejuice is just like all those great 80s movie. It had a great soundtrack that went well with the movie. I think that is everything worth mentioning about the film. I recommend it to everyone. Truly, Beetlejuice is a 5 stars worthy movie.
A few years ago, I watched the Ghost movie. It is one of my favorite movies. It has both a dark and bright outlook of the afterlife. The main character was a guy who was murdered. Now, he is a Ghost. He first found out that he was dead when he went to the hospital. The whole passing through walls things also helped to convince him that he was totally dead.
Very early, the movie alluded to the four odd grim things that took people to hell. Anyhow, many of the problems of the Ghost guy consisted on his inability to interact with his wife. Via a medium, who was played by Whoopie Goldberg, he was able to talk with his wife. Speaking of Goldberg, she was quite hilarious in this movie.
I liked how she reacted to her first true close encounter. The ghost guy helped her develop her psychic powers. In the past, she was just a fraud. However, she became a true seer thanks to the ghost guy. Speaking of ghosts, my favorite ghost from the movie was the guy that haunted the subways. He was able to touch things. The main character convinced him to teach him how to do the same tricks.
The problem was that the ghost guy still treated matter in the usual fashion. After all, a ghost does not truly have any fingers to move stuffs. I think that is everything worth mentioning about this movie. It was really something else. I recommend it to all who have lost someone precious. In any case, this ghost movie deserves 5 stars rating.
I do not need to tell you that the Matrix movies are 5 stars worthy movies. I also do not need to tell you what they are about. The Matrix is the tale of the blue pill and the red pill. Neo, who choose the red pill saw the world for what it truly was. Frankly, I liked the first movie a hell of a lot. Its exaggerations where believable. By the time of the third movie, the battles seemed like a duel between two super men.
I think I will start reviewing the first movie. The movie starts with Mr. Anders, played by Keanu Reeves. He is a hacker named Neo. He has been searching for the Morpheus hacker for years. Eventually, Morpheus finds him. Much to his deep chagrin, Neo gets infected by a tracking cookie that had to be removed. The movies had a lot of neat visualization of a lot of computer programs.
The oracle was the most freaky program. In the end, she too was part of the system of control. The way she spoke was pretty freaky. Her name too was taken from computer Jargon. There is a cool oracle programming language out there. There is also an oracle computer company that dishes out hard oracle examinations. Anyhow, she too tested to see who was the One.
In the end, like all seers, she told you what you wanted to hear. In essence, she was a fraud. Aside from the Machines, the main antagonist was Mr. Smith. He started out like a regular program. However, when he came in contact with Neo, he turned into a Virus. By the time the third movie came, he had turned everyone into himself.
Well, I am getting a bit ahead of myself. What I liked a lot was Neo's training. It is a bummer how he learned kong fu in computer world. The lady in red was also pretty cute. However, my favorite part was the jumping training. Everyone always falls the first time.
Frankly, the best part about the first movie was the fighting. Either with guns or martial arts, the battles were pretty elaborated. I liked a lot Trinity's high kick. The way Neo dodged the bullets was also pretty cool. Its a bummer how the dream team got betrayed. It sure goes to show that some people rather live in the world of illusion.
Now, onto the second movie. In the second movie, Neo is already flying like super man. From time to time, he bleeds in his battles. This usually gives courage to his enemies. In this movie, this random program alludes to the fact that Neo was not the only One. Another interesting feature are the odd new bad guys. The ghost men were pretty cool. Anyhow, in that movie, they finally showed you Zion. Frankly, I was not too impressed. They were simply futuristic cavemen.
The final movie was a real bummer. It did brought closure to the films. If you think about it, it started with Neo and it ended with Neo. I thought it was ironic that the people from Zion used machines to defeat the machines. Regardless of how you go about it, mankind needs machines to survive.
My favorite part of the film was when Neo and Trinity finally saw the sunrise. They rose above all the darkness of the world bellow. For a second, they saw glory. A second later, Trinity died. I was glad that Neo had no magic powers to revive her. It was a real bummer how she survived the second part. Frankly, they gave him too much powers.
It was worse when he started affecting the machines outside the Matrix. Needless to say, his contact with Mr. Smith gave him such super powers. I think that is everything worth mentioning about the movie. The Matrix Trilogy are 5 stars worthy movies. Yet, I liked better the first movie. I think the Matrix could have done just fine without the other two movies.
Today, I wanted to review both of volumes of the Kill Bill movies. I watched the second part first. However, for orderly purposes, I will start with the first movie. Like we all know, Kill Bill is a tale of revenge. The protagonist is played by Uma Thurman. She is ought to Kill Bill and the Viper Assassination Squad that ruined her wedding. The first revenge mission shown in this movie took place at the home of one of the Vipers. The Bride killed her before the Viper's daughter.
It was quite a gruesome sight. My favorite part of the movie was all the scenes relating to O-Ren Ishii aka Cottonmouth. Her background story was pretty gory. I liked how it was made anime style. The final battle with O-ren was also pretty cool. The Bride had to kill a hell of a lot of people. Another thing that I liked was the background story of the Hattori Hanzo's sword.
I think that is everything worth mentioning about the first movie. Now onto the second movie. The second Kill Bill movie featured The Bride's training. He teacher was really something else. He only trained The Bride because he was feeling lonely in his old age. The conditioning of the fist training was pretty cool. It was also a real bummer the big deal about the rice.
Its a pity the way that Elle killed The Bride's master. Then again, poisoning someone is a chick thing. The final battle with Bill was also something else. The five finger palm of death was pretty cool. Aside from the story line and the fights, the music of the Kill Bill movies was pretty cool. Truly, Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2 deserves 5 stars rating.
